Success is not the work of an individual but the work of many
Kia ora Koutou
Today’s whakataukī acknowledges team effort, that one’s success is due to the support and contribution of many. Just as it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a community / a team to enable an individual’s success.
Thank you for the great whānau turnout at our cross country. It was wonderful to see your support. Whilst we did have a slight increase of absences we were thrilled by the number of our tamariki who showed excellence and resilience by showing up to the start line and crossing the finish line. That was all we were asking of them and as usual with our students, they rose to the challenge and fronted up.
There is a misconception that because we are an intermediate school, and our students are only with us for two years, that we don’t value or welcome parental involvement. Nothing could be further from the truth. We respect what our whānau can offer us and really enjoy having you in school supporting our events or following our sports teams when they are away competing.
As our school vision states:
We value the partnership with our community and recognise that whānau are integral to student learning and development. Our open door policy ensures whānau feel welcome. Their input is sought after and valued. Student success is celebrated in the school and within the wider community. Information is shared with whānau through the school website and parent portal. The community is invited to get involved in all aspects of school life.
Our vision is aspirational and is what we want to be as a school. Some of this we are doing really well however we are constantly working towards our vision and there is still work to do. As you will be aware our parent portal to share information about your child is still a work in progress - we are still looking at the best platform for this that will deliver what we wish it to. Later this year you will be given the opportunity to contribute to our Hutt Intermediate Student Graduate profile. This profile will outline what core attributes and skills a Hutt Intermediate student will need to have when they leave us. Your partnership with us on this will be integral to student learning and development.
Next Monday (20 May) we will be holding our annual lockdown drill. All students are briefed before the drill so everyone knows what to do and what to expect. Our drill starts at 9.30am and will be finished by morning tea (10.30am). During this time the school will be in “lockdown” and we ask that no parents and whānau come to school. If you need to pick up or drop off your child please do so before 9.15am or after 10.30 am as the doors into and around the school will be locked and no staff will be available.
